What makes a good web site?

When designing a web site for your business, what are the key attributes?

Website Benchmarks™ has a deliberately non-technical perspective - we concentrate on the commercial requirements needed for a successful web site. Our focus is mostly B2B sites, with some B2C, rather than social networking, music or video. We gather information about best practice in website design from operators of successful web sites.

We would welcome your input on what makes an effective web site.

What do you think?

Based on extensive research we have identified the 30 key attributes of successful web sites - and grouped these under 5 headings. These are:

There is also an optional E-Commerce section, with a further 12 attributes (coming soon).

To complete the survey, simply score the relevance of each attribute on a scale of 1 to 7. It should take about 3 minutes, with a further 1 minute for the E-Commerce survey.

What do other people think?

On completion of the survey, your responses will be immediately displayed against the average of all responses to date. This will provide a clear indication as to how your views on the importance of each attribute compare to others participating in this exercise. The feedback may mean that your web site should be reviewed to ensure that you maximise the opportunity of getting your business message across.

To date, we have had 84 responses to the survey.

Thank you for your interest.
